Three Months Strong: Four5’s First Competition at the Reorg Open
October 4th marked three months since Four5’s Submission Grappling first opened its doors—and what better way to celebrate than by stepping onto the competition mats for the very first time?
Our debut took place at the Reorg Open in Stoke-on-Trent, a tournament close to our hearts. Four5’s is a proud Reorg Approved Gym, and we’ve always supported their mission to use Jiu-Jitsu as a path to recovery, community, and purpose. Competing under their banner was the perfect way to give back and represent that shared ethos.
We took 10 competitors down to the event, and the results spoke for themselves:
🏅 5 gold medals
🥈 6 silver medals
🥉 7 bronze medals
A few matches were decided by the narrowest of margins, but every athlete left it all on the mat—and that’s what truly matters.
Building a Competition Mindset
In the weeks leading up to the Reorg Open, we introduced dedicated competition classes into our weekly schedule. These sessions focused on helping athletes develop their “A game” and “B game” — the key positions and strategies that define their personal Jiu-Jitsu style.
The goal was simple: give our students the confidence to perform their best under pressure. By the time they stepped onto the mats, each competitor knew exactly what they were trying to achieve. For many, it was their first tournament—but you’d never have guessed it from the composure they showed.
A Team Effort Beyond the Mats
The Reorg Open wasn’t just about medals. Families came along to support, and a few new members joined us to see what competition life is all about. One of them, Brian, even brought his camera and captured some fantastic photos of the day.
The atmosphere was electric — supportive, positive, and proud. Whether competing, coaching, photographing, or cheering, everyone contributed to making it a memorable event.
The Start of Something Bigger
This competition was more than a milestone — it was a statement. Four5’s is growing from a small gym in Salford into a thriving, disciplined, and ambitious team. Competing together only strengthened that sense of unity and purpose.
Not everyone at Four5’s has to compete — but for those who do, we’ll always provide the structure, coaching, and support needed to perform at their best.
And as we continue to grow, Four5’s aims to evolve from a local club into an internationally recognised public gym — a place where anyone, from anywhere, can feel welcome to train, grow, and belong.
